The Department of Atmospheric Sciences in the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota has established a long-term atmospheric and
hydrologic research facility. The facility is located on the Nature Conservancy Glacial Ridge Restoration Project site. The Glacial Ridge property
is located about 65 km SE of UND, between Crookston and Mentor, Minnesota The long-term goal of the facility is to deploy a highly instrumented monitoring network
to better observe and understand atmospheric and hydrologic processes.
The Nature Conservancy's long-term goal for the Glacial Ridge property (24,000 acres) is a complete restoration of the land back to the natural prairie
grasses and wetlands. Most of the property had been used (or still is) for both farming and ranching activities for the past 20 years. The restoration is planned
for period of 15 years with a percentage of the property being converted each year.
How to get there
From Grand Forks, travel East on US Highway 2, 16 miles past Crookston until you reach MN Highway 32. Take a right on MN Highway 32 at mile marker 43. Drive 3
miles south and the field site is located on the left-hand (East) side of the highway.
